We have recently completed a pilot study in conjunction with the local VA Hospital in examining the effects of acupuncture on patients with GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disorder).  The authors of this research have presented their abstract at conference, and it is currently under consideration to be submitted to NIH for grant funding. If funded, the Asian Institute would participate in more advanced research in this area.

Moreover, we have completed a 6 month pilot study with the Tucson office of the International Rescue Committee to assist relocated refugees suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  Student Interns from the Asian Institute were integrally involved during the study in treatment and data collection. The outcomes are statistically significant, and the results of this study are being submitted for grant funding. If funded, the Asian Institute would participate in more advanced research, and continued funding would also allow the Asian Institute to continue this valuable program for Tucson’s refugee population.
